The Subway and Pool, Zion National Park, Utah
This location, known as the Subway, is one of the "hidden icons" of Zion National Park. I say it is a "hidden icon" because it is well known, but too difficult for many people to access. This hike is a strenuous 9 mile round trip through Left Fork Canyon with a very random trail that criss crosses North Creek the entire way. That said, the hike is quite beautiful, offering numerous photo opportunities along the journey. As this image shows, at just the right time of day, sunlight enters the water carved "subway tube" and makes it glow. The pool of water makes for a cool contrast to the warm light and sandstone. I earned this image with an 11 hour day of hiking and shooting. I love my work.
