sunset, fall tundra, denali
This was one of the most beautiful evenings I have ever experienced. After a week of 15 hour hiking days, on the wet tundra, with 60 pounds of large format camera gear, clothes, food and water, I decided to stay in camp for the evening. Camp was at Wonder Lake, 85 miles inside Denali National Park, Alaska. While peparing for dinner around 9:45 PM, the clouds broke. The Mountain, Denali, showed itself (which it rarely does). I quickly grabbed my pack and walked about 300 yards toward the mountain. I had scouted this spot while picking blueberries and was ready for the show. As the sky lit up, the light reflected onto the land. The depth of the scene was amazing. That day was the peak of the Fall color. To have the mountain show itself 18,000 feet above, the pink clouds, the glorious foreground and the fir trees standing out in the middle ground. This image was everything I had hoped for, all at once. I am grateful I can share this experience with you.
