Iceberg Jam Panorama, Jokusarlon, Iceland
The ice lagoon in Jokusarlon, Iceland has become a famous location for photographers. This large glacial lake has a continuos flow of icebergs passing through as they are calved from the glacier to the north and exit through the river to the south that feeds into the ocean just a quarter mile away. This morning was my only opportunity to enjoy sunshine on my entire trip. While it was beautiful, the cold wind was painful. I did, however, choose to take advantage of the situation.
The previous night had been a busy one for the face of the glaciers that terminate in the lagoon. The large volume of of icebergs reached the exit river to the ocean at the same time causing an iceberg jam. I composed this image of a vast array of icebergs piled together with the glacier and mountains from which they came in the background. Such a dramatic scene, preserved for posterity, as we struggle to save this part of our natural world.
Enjoy the View!
