Colors of Zion, Zion National Park, Utah

In order to be a successful photographer, one must master the understanding of light. I captured this incredible image while most of Zion National Park was experiencing "poor" direct light. Focussing on a diversity of detail ranging from desert varnish on sandstone cliffs, maple trees adorned in Fall colors and moss and lichen on my foreground rock, I put together an image that epitomizes the subtle details and beauty of this park. While the sun was rising above the cliff in my photo, the sun was shining directly onto the far canyon wall to my right, causing warm light to reflect into my scene, making the image glow. Light is everything in this image, and this light in unique to this location.
